Majolica · Pottery Studio

You just won your first pottery tool.

This card isn't just a card. It's a pottery rib, the tool every potter always keeps close at hand. From today, it's yours.

How to use it

How the rib works

Four moves you'll make again and again in the studio.

  1. Compress the slab

Draw the rib across the clay slab, always in the same direction. This aligns the clay particles and compresses the slab, so it won't crack.

  2. Scrape away bumps

Use the rib as a scraper to remove the bumps left behind while building your piece.

  3. Cut the clay

Its thin edge cuts cleanly: slabs, strips and whatever is left over at the rim.

  4. Shape curves

The rib's curves give shape to vases, mugs and any other piece. Depending on how you hold it, you can form concave or convex curves.
